Inconel-617

INCONEL® alloy 617 is a nickel chromium cobalt molybdenum alloy, with an addition of Aluminium, which is designed to have a combination of increased strength and stability at elevated temperature, whilst retaining the high temperature corrosion resistance of INCONEL® alloy 601. The alloy has been widely employed in gas turbine hot gas paths as combustion cans, ducting and liners.

The combination of high strength and oxidation resistance at temperatures over 1800°F (980°C) makes INCONEL alloy 617 an attractive material for such components as ducting, combustion cans, and transition liners in both aircraft and land-based gas turbines. Because of its resistance to high-temperature corrosion,the alloy is used for catalyst-grid supports in the production of nitric acid, for heat-treating baskets, and for reduction boats in the refining of molybdenum.

INCONEL alloy 617 also offers attractive properties for components of power-generating plants, both fossilfueled and nuclear. The material has also found increased usage as catalyst grids in nitric acid production, as reformer tubes for steam generation in petrochemical plant and high temperature gas valve components.

Alloy developments have provided designers of fossil fuelled fired boilers with this material as a good candidate for the latest generation of ultrasupercritical boiler tubes now in development.
